Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is set to start a new chapter in his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons. Tagovailoa spent six seasons with the Dolphins, showing potential during his first four seasons. However, as the years went by, Tagovailoa’s level regressed, earning plenty of criticism from fans and analysts.
The veteran will play under Kevin Stefanski in Atlanta and will have the chance to compete for the starting spot with Michael Penix Jr. The second-year quarterback beat Kirk Cousins for the same role in 2024, but after an underwhelming performance before he went down with a season-ending ACL injury, his future as the starter was put in question.

Taigovailoa spoke for the first time since his move to Atlanta, saying that he was ready to compete.
“Competition is just a thing in the NFL. I am no stranger to competition — had it in college,” Tagovailoa said, via Josh Kendall of The Athletic. “I would say competition is just going to be there, and competition enhances the play of everyone.”

In six years, the former Alabama star played 78 games with the Dolphins, going 260 of 384 for 2,660 yards and 20 touchdowns with 15 interceptions.

After signing the veteran minimum with the Falcons, Tua Tagovailoa prepares to start fresh. He shared his expectations for the season, saying that he looked forward to competing on a new team.
“The best thing for me right now is making the best of this opportunity that I have with the team in terms of the relationships I make with these guys,” he said. “I get to freaking play football. This is what I dreamed of my entire life. I am going to be present. I’m going to be in the moment. I’m going to be where my feet are.”
The Falcons could be a total disaster or a big surprise next season. Time will tell what role Tagovailoa plays.
