The Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed Lavonte David to a one-year, $9 million contract last March. He put together a solid 14th season, totaling 114 tackles, eight TFLs, 3.5 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles across 17 games. The 36-year-old David essentially had two options regarding his NFL future: return to Tampa Bay for his 15th season or retire, as he does not want to play for any other team.
After months of reflection, he finally announced his plans at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.

Lavonte David announced his retirement after 14 seasons in the NFL. He wrapped up an incredible career playing exclusively for Tampa Bay, earning over $103 million, while finishing seventh all-time in total tackles, winning a Super Bowl in 2020, making it to one Pro Bowl, and three All-Pro honors (one first-team, two second-team). David totaled 1,716 tackles, 177 TFLs, 42.5 sacks, 14 interceptions, 2 pick-sixes, 73 pass deflections, and 33 forced fumbles across 215 regular-season games. He also added 79 tackles, six TFLs, three sacks, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble in ten playoff games.
David will undoubtedly be inducted into the Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor and potentially have his jersey retired one day. Here’s what his statement read on Instagram:
