Pembroke High students call the game from their own version of ESPN Sportscenter.
The Pembroke High boys basketball team defeated the Gardner Wildcats in double overtime, 63-57, in the preliminary round of the MIAA tournament on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026.
This move to ESPN represents a step up to national television on one of sports media’s most iconic brands. SportsCenter has long been a cornerstone of ESPN’s programming, delivering scores, analysis, and storytelling to millions. Burke made a statement on her Instagram account to express her enthusiasm, “Some personal news: I’m over the moon to begin this next chapter of my career in my dream job! SportsCenter is a show I grew up watching, a cornerstone of ESPN for decades, and I’m so honored to join such an iconic program.”
She added, “I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and especially thankful for the family, friends, and colleagues who have supported me every step of the way. Can’t wait to get to work! @sportscenter”.
However, many fans doubted how she got her role. Many believed that it was her looks, not her talent or work, that got her the role. Some even said it was a racist hire.
