NBA Players association slams Bucks’ push to sit Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Milwaukee Bucks are facing growing scrutiny as tensions rise over the status of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The situation has now drawn a strong response from the NBA Players Association, which publicly criticized the team’s reported plans.

In a statement, the NBPA pushed back against the idea of shutting down Antetokounmpo for the rest of the season. The union stressed that the league’s Player Participation Policy exists to ensure stars play when healthy.

“The Player Participation Policy was designed by the league to hold teams accountable and ensure that when an All-Star like Giannis Antetokounmpo is healthy and ready to play, he is on the court,” the NBPA wrote in their statement, shared by Shams Charania.

The statement also warned about the wider impact on the game. It said anti-tanking measures lose value without proper enforcement.

“Unfortunately, anti-tanking policies are only as effective as their enforcement; fans, broadcast partners, and the integrity of the game itself will continue to suffer as long as ownership goes unchecked,” NBPA wrote. “We look forward to collaborating with the NBA on meaningful new proposals that will directly address and discourage tanking.”

Bucks’ performance this NBA season

The Bucks hold a 29-42 record and sit outside the playoff picture. With limited games left, the team appears to be weighing long-term planning over immediate results.

Antetokounmpo, however, wants to return once cleared. The two-time MVP is dealing with a knee issue but has avoided major structural damage. Despite missing time, he is still averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists, showing his continued dominance.

Milwaukee’s struggles this season have been clear. Defensive issues, injuries, and inconsistency have all played a role in the team’s decline. The drop from recent contention has raised questions about direction and leadership.

This situation now brings more uncertainty to the forefront this season. With Giannis’ future and the team’s approach under focus, the Bucks face a critical period both on and off the court.
