Report: Why Chelsea are blaming Enzo Maresca and not Liam Rosenior for their current woes

Liam Rosenior has faced a lot of criticism in recent weeks for Chelsea’s performances.

The Blues are not doing well right now, losing their last four matches before the international break.

However, the club are refusing to place any of the blame on Rosenior and have instead directed it at his predecessor Enzo Maresca.

Who would you like to see replace Liam Rosenior if he gets sacked?

Chelsea point finger at Enzo Maresca

According to The Telegraph, the view inside Chelsea is that their turbulent season is down to Maresca deciding to resign midway through it.

The Italian left Chelsea in January after a breakdown in relationship with the board and was replaced by Rosenior.

While Maresca did not enjoy the best relationship with his superiors, he got on very well with his players. His exit has really impacted the dressing room.

For example, Fernandez was devastated when Maresca left Chelsea and could now explore a move away from the club in the summer.

The midfielder could have several options, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City all thought to be big admirers.

Sporting directors deserve just as much blame

Now that he is not at the club, it is easy to blame Maresca. But by no means is the Italian solely responsible for the team’s disappointing season.

The ones who put this inexperienced and unbalanced squad together deserve just as much blame, if not more. They are Laurence Stewart, Paul Winstanley and the club’s other recruitment staff.

Right now, Chelsea are just not equipped to take on Europe’s elite — that was clear to see in their Champions League last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain — while they do not even look capable of finishing in the top four.

Ultimately, had they signed a reliable goalkeeper and experienced centre-half last summer, the team would probably be doing much better. Maresca may have even decided to stay.

It is something for Stewart and Winstanley to think about ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
