(WVUE) - NBA YoungBoy is headed to the big screen with a new concert documentary, “American YoungBoy,” a film centered on the rapper’s MASA Tour and his life behind the scenes.
Variety reported in January that YoungBoy would star in a concert documentary produced and distributed by Foundation Media Partners alongside his newly launched production company, 38 Films.
The film is described as documenting YoungBoy’s stage presence, the scale of his tour and the energy of his audience, while also showing more personal moments away from the spotlight. According to a current theatrical listing, the documentary runs about 1 hour and 15 minutes and is scheduled for release on April 22.
The theater synopsis says “American YoungBoy” was captured across 42 sold-out arena performances on the MASA Tour and includes backstage interactions, rehearsal footage and glimpses into the rapper’s home and family life.
Variety reported the documentary will be directed by Nico Ballesteros, who also directed the Kanye West documentary “In Whose Name?” Foundation Media Partners CEO Patrick Hughes told the outlet the film is meant to capture YoungBoy’s energy “honestly and cinematically” while giving audiences a closer look at who he is beyond the stage.
At the time of Variety’s report, the company said it was developing a strategy for both a theatrical and streaming rollout.
The documentary arrives as YoungBoy continues to post major numbers. Pollstar had him ranked with the 13th biggest global tour, averaging $1.6 million in gross per city.
YoungBoy is also set to headline the final night of Rolling Loud Orlando, scheduled for May 8 through May 10 at Camping World Stadium.
