Raiders finally fill QB coach vacancy on Klint Kubiak’s 1st staff

The Las Vegas Raiders are adding a quarterbacks coach to their staff after all.

Mike Sullivan is expected to take the position on Klint Kubiak’s staff despite previously agreeing to serve as the assistant wide receivers coach at Rutgers.

Sullivan has several connections to the Raiders coaching staff and front office.

The 59-year-old Army alum and veteran won two Super Bowls on the coaching staff of the New York Giants with both coming in wins over minority owner Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Sullivan was the wide receivers coach in 2007 and the quarterbacks coach in 2011, when Eli Manning had arguably his best season.

He was also the Denver Broncos’ quarterbacks coach in 2018 when new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak was an offensive assistant.

Sullivan has been coaching at either the college or NFL level since 1993 and won a Division I-AA national title as defensive backs coach at Youngstown State in 1997.

He was the offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers in 2012-13 and for the Giants in 2016 and 2017.

Sullivan has spent the last four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, three as quarterbacks coach and one as a senior offensive assistant.

The Raiders had been the only team in the league without a designated quarterbacks coach since Kubiak’s first full staff was announced earlier this month.

Sullivan is expected to mentor top overall pick Fernando Mendoza.
