Grizzlies Announce Unfortunate Ja Morant Decision on Tuesday

The last time Ja Morant saw action for the Memphis Grizzlies was on Jan. 21. The two-time All-Star has been out of action due to an elbow sprain, which is the latest of a string of injuries that have marred his seventh season in the NBA.

Morant has made just 20 appearances for the Grizzlies in 2025-26. The 26-year-old has produced averages of 19.5 points on a career-low 41.0% shooting, along with 3.3 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.0 steals in 28.5 minutes per game. Morant has also knocked down 1.0 triples per contest on an inefficient 23.5% clip.

With the former Rookie of the Year out of action for most of the season, the Grizzlies have struggled to remain relevant in the Western Conference. As of writing, they are 24-47 and 12th in the West.

The Grizzlies shared an update on Morant's injury recovery. According to the team, the All-NBA guard has progressed well in his rehab. However, the team has decided to shut him down for the rest of the season.

The Grizzlies announced their unfortunate decision on Tuesday night via social media.

"Morant continues to progress in his rehabilitation of a UCL sprain in his left elbow," read Grizzlies PR's post on X. "Following a recent consultation to advise on lingering discomfort, it was recommended that Morant receive a PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection to further optimize ligament healing.

"Morant will begin offloading the elbow following the injection and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season, but he is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season."

In the announcement, the Grizzlies also indicated that Brandon Clarke (right calf strain) will also miss the rest of the campaign. Zach Edey, on the other hand, underwent a procedure for his left elbow injury and is expected to make a full recovery ahead of next season.

Despite trade rumors surrounding the controversial star, Morant is still under contract with the Grizzlies through 2028. He is expected to earn $42.2 million next season and another $44.9 million in 2027-28.

The Grizzlies have 11 games remaining in the regular season. Their next game is on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs.
