LaMelo Ball Passes Dell Curry in Hornets' Franchise History

No one is slowing down the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets defeated the Sacramento Kings134-90 on Tuesday to maintain their winning streak and raise their record to 38-34. All-Star guard LaMelo Ball had 20 points against the Kings and went 6-for-13 from beyond the arc. He also had six rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

While Ball had an all-around performance, it was Coby White who led the team in scoring. White had 27 points off the bench, providing a boost for the Hornets. Ball and White were joined by three other players who scored in double digits.

It was also a special night for the one-time All-Star, who became No. 2 in the Hornets' all-time 3-pointers list.

Before the game, Ball had 925 made shots from deep. He needed four to pass former Hornets guard Dell Curry, who had 929 during his 10-year tenure with the franchise. The next player for him to pass is former star Kemba Walker, who had 1,283 3-pointers in Charlotte.

Ball's numbers have declined this season; however, it's mostly because he has help on offense. The NBA star is averaging 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.1 assists on 36.7% shooting from deep. There's a chance that the Hornets star will have his first postseason appearance this year.

Bill Simmons Acknowledges LaMelo Ball's Growth This Season

Although his numbers aren't the same as in previous seasons, Ball is being rewarded this season by playing in a winning environment. The Ringer's Bill Simmons recognized the work that the star athlete has put in this season on the recent episode of his podcast, "The Bill Simmons Show."

"He's actually had seasons with better 'stats.' This is a classic eye test; you have to watch it. I love the way he's playing," Simmons said. "There's real thoughtfulness in how he's playing the point guard position now and how he's not as risky and reckless as he was. He doesn't seem like he's in an AND-1 tournament anymore."

Aside from Ball's growth this season, Simmons acknowledged that the star guard knows the importance of having productive wing players like Brandon Miller and rookie Kon Knueppel.

"[Ball] understands they have these two incredible wings... Kon Knueppel has a chance to get 300 made threes, which would be nuts. Brandon Miller, when you watch him, this is like the best version of Paul George in the 2010s."

The Hornets are 2.5 games from the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference. If they keep their win streak alive, there's a chance they could avoid the Play-In Tournament in their first postseason appearance since 2016.
