Mikel Arteta encouraged to complete blockbuster signing of£90M attacker

Former England international Joe Cole has urged Arsenal to consider a blockbuster summer move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as speculation grows around the Paris Saint-Germain winger’s future.

Cole’s comments come amid increasing Premier League interest in the Georgian star, with multiple English clubs reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the transfer window. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s most explosive attackers, playing a key role in PSG’s recent domestic and European success, including standout performances in the Champions League.

Speaking on a podcast, Cole suggested ARSENAL could fund a move for Kvaratskhelia by reshaping their current squad, even floating the idea of selling captain Martin Ødegaard to finance a deal that could exceed £75–80 million. He believes the winger would elevate Mikel Arteta’s side to another level, describing the potential signing as transformative for a team already “on the cusp” of major success.

Kvaratskhelia’s profile fits Arsenal’s attacking philosophy. Operating primarily from the left, he combines elite dribbling, pace and creativity, with the ability to score and create in equal measure. His versatility across the front line would also complement players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, offering Arteta more unpredictability in high-pressure matches

‘The way Arsenal as a club are set up now, they’re on the cusp of it [a successful period],’ Cole said on The Dressing Room podcast.

‘If they win one trophy they might really kick on… even already if you look at what their planning for next year, you hear they’re talking about trying to sign Kvaratskhelia from PSG. Imagine putting him in this Arsenal team.

‘Then you look at it and think, Man City have got to go again [in the transfer window], you can forget about Chelsea at the moment because we’re not there and Aston Villa aren’t at that level.’

Why this transfer is unlikely

Despite the excitement surrounding the link, several factors make this move improbable.

Firstly, PSG’s financial strength and competitive ambitions mean they rarely sell key players unless it suits their long-term strategy. Kvaratskhelia is not only central to their attack but also a marquee figure following their recent Champions League success.

Secondly, the cost would be prohibitive. With a valuation likely exceeding £90 million, ARSENAL would need a major sale—such as Ødegaard—to fund the move, a decision that could destabilise their squad rather than strengthen it.

Finally, there is the player’s situation. Kvaratskhelia is thriving in Paris, competing for major honours annually. A switch to Arsenal, while attractive, would not represent a clear step up in terms of immediate silverware or financial incentives.
