Midfielder wants to join Arsenal – Ready to snub multiple CL giants for Gunners

Leon Goretzka

AC Milan have to overcome Arsenal to sign Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka in the summer window.

Arsenal were among the clubs to look at the midfielder in the winter market but a move never took shape.

The Germany international’s contract expires in June and he’s already announced he will leave Bayern Munich as a free agent after this season.

Goretzka has played 1,775 minutes from 37 matches, managing two goals and two assists, so far this season. This includes 18 league starts from 24 matches, and his statistics per game in the Bundesliga are as follows.

Interceptions: 0.9

Tackles: 0.8

Possession won [final third]: 0.3

Ball recovery: 3.1

Duels won: 2.6

The 31-year-old’s status as a free agent, experience and qualities makes him attractive to Arsenal, Milan and others.

Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that the Gunners and Tottenham Hotspur are fighting for Goretzka’s signature.

Arsenal have upper hand in transfer race

AC Milan are also showing interest and Calciomercato cover the latest on them and Mikel Arteta’s side.

From Italy, the Rossoneri, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli are all keen and Massimiliano Allegri has identified him as a priority target for his side. AC Milan are in contact with the German’s representative but face competition from Inter and Arsenal.

AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare has already contacted his agent. The player appreciates them and there was a significant opening in January.

However, they haven’t finalised the agreement yet because Leon Goretzka’s preference now would be move to the Premier League to join Arsenal.

To be clear, Calciomercato state: ‘The player’s preference is for the Premier League and Arsenal’

As well as the competition, his demands pose another difficulty for Milan. He wants a three-year deal worth €7m per year plus €10m signing on bonus.

Tare isn’t giving up and is working to beat Arsenal and Inter in the transfer race. He will ask for a discount on both salary and signing on bonus and offer a deal of more than three years.

As of now, the north London club appear to be in the driving seat to sign him.

Bayern Munich star’s value and agent info

Martín Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Declan Rice and Mikel Merino are the midfielders under Mikel Arteta’s orders. Leon Goretzka would have to fight for a place if he decides to move to the Emirates.

Transfermarkt value the German at €15m, and the highest was €80m in February 2021.

Agency Roof represents the Bayern Munich player and they have a long client list, including Arsenal star Kai Havertz.
