Chelsea goalkeeper season ratings so far, Sanchez struggles but 8/10 loanee gives hope for future

With plenty of Chelsea stars jetting off for international duty, it is the perfect time for us to dish out player ratings for the 2025/26 season so far.

Some Chelsea players are travelling more than 10,000 miles to represent their countries, at a time where Liam Rosenior could really do with them remaining at Cobham.

Goalkeeper is a position that has seen plenty of rotation under the new manager, with no one yet nailing down the role on a regular basis.

Who would you like to see replace Liam Rosenior if he gets sacked?

The Chelsea Chronicle have rated the goalkeepers at the club, including a loanee who is making his case to feature next season.

Chelsea 2025/26 player ratings: Goalkeeper edition

Robert Sanchez: 5/10

Under Enzo Maresca, Robert Sanchez enjoyed a fine return to form, not making a single error leading to a goal.

Since Rosenior’s hiring though, the extra responsibility on the ball has opened up some of the problems Chelsea fans became all too familiar with.

His most recent showing didn’t see him cover himself in glory. Sanchez received a 2/10 rating after his woeful performance against Everton.

Despite starting strong, Chelsea fans are left hoping they sign a new goalkeeper at the end of the season as a result of Sanchez’s form at a crucial time in the campaign.

Filip Jorgensen: 4/10

Filip Jorgensen wanted to leave the club when Maresca was in charge due to limited opportunities to feature, however this was set to change upon Rosenior’s arrival.

What followed was a nightmare performance in Chelsea’s biggest game of the season against PSG, leaving Jorgensen incredibly upset when he received a call from his international manager.

The Dane has spent the majority of his time at Stamford Bridge as the number two, and what he has shown this season hasn’t suggested that is about to change anytime soon.

Unfortunately, it looks as if the future is not bright in West London for Jorgensen.

Mike Penders: 8/10

Chelsea’s highest rated goalkeeper this season is not currently even with the club. Mike Penders is the number one with fellow BlueCo club, Strasbourg.

The young shot stopper has 11 clean sheets in all competitions this season, and has started all but one game in Ligue 1 after they lost Djordje Petrovic from their squad.

Some chiefs at Chelsea think Penders is ready to start at Stamford Bridge, and a decision is set to be made at the end of the season.

Even if it is as number two, it is time to promote the youngster to the squad and show him there is a genuine pathway before he decides to take his talents elsewhere.

Max Merrick: 7/10

Max Merrick has been on the bench for eight Chelsea games this season, however appearances have come thick and fast for the impressive Under 21 side.

In 12 Premier League 2 games, Merrick has five clean sheets, with the young Blues pushing for the league title.

Merrick signed a new contract with the club earlier this month, suggesting he still has a chance of making it in the first team squad.

Chelsea’s stance on goalkeepers

It has been reported that Chelsea have no plan on signing a new goalkeeper and are happy with their current options.

If this is the case, this has to be the last season where Penders is on loan, and he should be given the chance to compete for the number one jersey in West London.
