A former Baltimore Ravens QB spoke out about the team's "more efficient" switch from trading for Maxx Crosby.

The Buffalo Bills made a run at star edge rusher Maxx Crosby when the Las Vegas Raiders put him on the trade block, losing out when it appeared the Baltimore Ravens secured a deal.

Now, after the trade failed and Crosby returned to the Raiders, the Bills won’t expect a discount if they aim to try again.

A new report from ESPN’s Ryan McFadden detailed exactly how the agreed-upon trade between the Ravens and Raiders fell apart at the last minute and gave a glimpse into Crosby’s future. The report noted that the Raiders were left a bit shell-shocked and haven’t changed the massive asking price for the NFL star.

Some Good News, Some Bad on Maxx Crosby

McFadden reported that Crosby grew unhappy with the Raiders and their decision to shelve him for the final two games of the season, even though he believed he could play through a knee injury that ultimately required surgery.

“Crosby badly wanted to play for a winner, was told that he could, then watched that opportunity get snatched away from him in the blink of an eye,” McFadden wrote.

Crosby later called the confusing period before the Ravens backed out of a reminder that he’s meant to be a Raider, McFadden added, but said his loyalty still appears shakeable.

If the Bills, or any other team, wants to make another run at Crosby, they can expect to pay the same price — and they will have to show some patience.

“Teams continue to check in on his availability, but as of now, the Raiders’ asking price to trade Crosby’s contract remains high,” McFadden wrote. “And given what has happened, teams are hesitant to meet it, a league source said. Multiple Raiders sources say they’d be surprised if Crosby was traded in the short term. Perhaps a window of opportunity opens closer to the draft, but the team is certainly keeping an open mind on retaining him.”

Bills Moved on After Losing Out on Maxx Crosby

The Bills reportedly made an offer to the Raiders when Crosby went on the trade block, losing out because the Ravens were able to offer a first-round draft pick that was higher. The Bills would still carry that disadvantage into any future negotiations, and appear to have moved on with other plans for their pass-rushing group.

The team signed veteran edge rusher Bradley Chubb, landing the 29-year-old for a three-year contract. As the team noted, Chubb has bounced back from a serious injury and was playing at a high level again in 2025.

“In Week 17 of the 2023 season, Chubb suffered a torn ACL with the Dolphins, costing him to miss the entire 2024 season,” the Bills noted. Prior to the injury, Chubb was in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career. He had 11 sacks in 16 games, one shy of his career high. He also had a league-high six forced fumbles and 22 QB hits.”

The Bills could add more help after losing out on Crosby, with some analysts predicting the team will use its first-round draft pick on a new edge rusher.
