Alan Shearer says Chelsea are implementing a plan that will simply never work

Chelsea’s owners and sporting directors are being brash about their way of operating in West London. although Alan Shearer believes their current plan just won’t work.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have facilitated the club signing talented young players in bulk, and a number of these have turned out to be successful.

Estevao Willan and Andrey Santos look as if they are going to be superstars at Stamford Bridge, and there is still plenty of excitement over the incoming additions of Geovany Quenda and Mike Penders when they arrive this summer.

What percentage would you give Chelsea’s chances of Champions League qualification?

Opta say 10%…

Alan Shearer thinks Chelsea’s plan of buying young players will never work

This has however sometimes come at the cost of bringing in established stars, and a strategy that Alan Shearer has told Premier League Productions he believes needs to be put to an end if they are to move forwards.

He said: “Yeah, absolutely, yeah. I think what Chelsea’s model is and has been for a long time now is Champions League football.

“I think that’s the minimum that they would expect. And I think he probably knows that, he’s signed up for that. He knows the pressures that he’s under to big football club who want it very differently to what anyone else or how anyone else runs their football club in terms of buying young, trying to develop them and then perhaps sell them for big money, giving them long contracts.

“I’m not a huge fan of that, but they believe they’ll get success that way. I don’t. I think it’s such a difficult ask for any manager under those circumstances. But the reason he was hired, I think, is to get Champions League football.”

Chelsea are currently outside of the top five places that are guaranteed to secure Champions League football next season, putting pressure on Liam Rosenior from the outside.

Rosenior not in any danger of losing his job

Despite the fact Chelsea could be destined for Europa League or below, there doesn’t seem to be the pressure on the current manager that there was on Enzo Maresca.

Rosenior is not expected to be sacked whatever happens this summer, allowing him the chance to have a summer working with the squad and integrating new players.

It has been reported that Rosenior has been involved in discussions regarding new signings, even more so than his predacessor.

Unfortunately for Chelsea fans who are against the current project, it is currently unlikely many of them will steer away from the promising young talents.
