The Golden State Warriors officially confirmed on Tuesday that Moses Moody ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee. Moody suffered the injury in Monday’s win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Despite the gloom surrounding the injury, a Warriors insider shared a silver lining for the 23-year-old forward.
In an official statement by the Warriors, Moody will miss the rest of the season because of his injury. He’s set to undergo surgery later this week and will have a recovery period of nine to 12 months.

Moses Moody injury update:
Moody was having the best season of his career, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He’s not the first Warriors player to suffer a devastating knee injury this season.
Jimmy Butler tore his right ACL back in January, while Steph Curry hasn’t played since the end of January due to a runner’s knee.
Silver Lining for Moody Amid Injury
Speaking on 95.7 The Game, Warriors insider Nick Friedell of The Athletic discussed the mood inside the locker room after the injury happened. It was a somber feeling since Moody was well-liked by his teammates, coaching staff and team personnel.
Despite what happened to Moody, Friedell shared the silver lining that was the only positive he could see from the situation.
“Frankly, one of the things I thought about that I felt good for Mo about is that he signed that new deal,” Friedell said. “The money is coming in, you know? That’s part of pro sports, but I felt good that his future is set financially in that regard.”
Before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, Moody inked a three-year, $39 million rookie extension. It finally kicked in this season, which means he’ll be earning during his recovery.
Sports Doctor Provides Positive Outlook
A ruptured patellar tendon is a rare injury compared to a torn knee ligament. Some of the players to suffer the injury include Victor Oladipo, Andre Roberson, Jeremy Lin, Caron Butler and Kelenna Azubuike.
Oladipo hasn’t played in the NBA since the injury, while Roberson and Azubuike combined to play 15 games after a full recovery. Lin was able to suit up for one more season before taking his talents overseas.
Butler was a different case since he played five more seasons after his injury. He started declining in the final two years of his career.
According to Dr. Nirav Pandya of UCSF, Moody’s young age and the advancement in the rehab process will help his recovery. Pandya has a positive outlook for the player despite the history of other players who suffered the same fate in the past 15 years.

Gui Santos Primed to Step Up
Gui Santos is expected to step into a bigger role moving forward, with Moody and Butler likely to miss most of next season, as per Peter O’Keefe of Blue Man Hoop. Santos has been averaging 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals since February 1.
The Warriors rewarded the Brazilian star with a three-year, $15 million contract extension last month, which contains a player option for the 2028-29 NBA season.
