UCF Knights football has officially announced the hiring of cornerbacks coach David Overstreet II, filling the final vacancy on coach Scott Frost's staff ahead of the 2026 season.
Overstreet most recently worked with the Dallas Cowboys as a secondary and cornerbacks coach, bringing NFL experience that Frost and the staff value highly.

Before his time in Dallas, Overstreet spent three seasons with the Chicago Bears. He began as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2022 and later worked exclusively with the nickel position in 2024. One of the highlights of his tenure was helping develop Jaylon Johnson, a two-time Pro Bowl selection.
"Any time you can bring in someone with David's level of NFL experience, it's a win for your program," Frost said. "He's spent a ton of time in the pros and helped develop some young, talented guys. He knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I think our guys will learn a lot from him."
The hire follows the departure of Will Johnson, who left the program before spring camp to join the Minnesota Vikings staff as a member of their staff.

Overstreet began his NFL coaching career with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 as a defensive quality control assistant before being promoted to assistant defensive backs coach in 2021. During his tenure, the Colts recorded 64 interceptions, tied for the third-most in the league over that span, including 19 in 2021.
Before entering the NFL, Overstreet spent two seasons at Garden City Community College in Kansas as defensive passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach. He helped lead the program to the NJCAA National Championship in 2016, and the team recorded 18 interceptions in 2017, ranking sixth nationally.

As a player, Overstreet competed for the Missouri Tigers from 2002-06, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors twice. He appeared in 25 games for Missouri, totaling 172 tackles with five for a loss, half a sack, two interceptions, and a 41-yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown.
UCF spring camp is set to begin on March 31. The Knights went 5-7 in 2025 in Frost's first season back in Orlando. They will open the 2026 season on Thursday, September 3 against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at the Acrisure Bounce House.
