Werder Bremen have confirmed Karl Hein’s season is over after the Estonia international suffered a serious hand injury in training last week.
The 23-year-old has since returned to London and underwent surgery on Tuesday.
After slipping down the pecking order at the Emirates following the summer arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Hein joined Bremen on loan in the hope of building on the 31 appearances he made in La Liga last season with Real Valladolid.
Unfortunately, the move has not gone as planned. He has made just two appearances, the last back in October.
It remains unclear how long he will be sidelined, but with his Arsenal contract due to expire this summer, the timing is far from ideal if he is to secure a move elsewhere.
In a statement, Werder Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune said: “I feel incredibly sorry for Karl. He’s a top goalkeeper who has fully embraced his role with us and given everything in every single training session.
“We hope the operation and the rehabilitation afterwards go well and that he can get back on the pitch as soon as possible. We’ll support him in every way we can.”
Get well soon, Karl.
