Giants May Already Have a Cam Skattebo Replacement

Rookies Cam Skattebo and Jaxson Dart didn’t need much time to win over the New York Giants‘ fan base. Their relentless, playful nature and competitiveness made them must-watch television, even in their losses.

Skattebo’s rookie season was cut short with an injury, but he had still done more than enough to be the undisputed RB1 in 2026 when he was healthy again.

That may no longer be the case. According to former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum, there’s no way that John Harbaugh will pass on a chance to get a star RB like Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love:

“If you think about John Harbaugh, what he stands for; there’s no better way to establish offense than an effective running game,” Tannenbaum said. “You wanna develop a young quarterback in Jaxson Dart… I just can’t imagine John Harbaugh, year 1, who’s there to establish a new culture, a new identity, would pass on someone as talented as Jeremiyah Love.”

Love could be gone as early as No. 2, so there’s still a chance that the Giants will have to pivot three picks later. However, if he’s up for grabs at No. 5, coach Harbaugh might push GM Joe Schoen to get him to the Big Apple.

He’s the clear-cut RB1 prospect in this class after totalling 21 touchdowns (18 rush) and turning 199 carries into 1,372 rushing yards for the Fighting Irish.

The Giants could get several game-changing prospects like Carnell Tate, Sonny Styles, or Caleb Downs, but given Harbaugh’s preference for a run-first offense, taking Love certainly checks out.

Of course, that might be bad news for Skattebo, but not necessarily for the Giants. If anything, they’d have one of the most explosive and electrifying one-two running back tandems in the game, and it might help the reckless Skattebo stay healthy.
