Media Insider Names New Favorite Landing Spot For Mike Tomlin

After Mike Tomlin stepped down as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach, there was plenty of speculation as to where his next job might come. On Tuesday, we learned that it might be in the media, with Tomlin securing representation for a potential move to that industry. Early this week, media insider Andrew Marchand predicted where Tomlin might land if he does move to the media world.

“Mike Tomlin, I would say NBC may have moved ahead of FOX . I’m not saying that’s definite, that anything’s definitely going to happen. But I think NBC might have the inside track over FOX if he does it,” Marchand said on his podcast.

Marchand has been on the Tomlin media train for a while, but this is a change in his thinking. Shortly after Tomlin stepped down in January, Marchand named FOX as the favorite if he went into TV, suggesting he might take the spot vacated by Jimmy Johnson.

But NBC makes some sense as well. Tony Dungy isn’t returning to the network, and it was reported last month that a couple other analysts could be let go from NBC as well. With FOX spending big on Tom Brady recently, perhaps NBC is more equipped to give Tomlin a large offer.

Tomlin has been pretty quiet in his first two months of life after the NFL. After stepping down following 19 years with the Steelers, Tomlin only emerged when spending time with family, and it became clear he won’t be coaching in 2026. If he does take a media job, it would feel less likely he’d ever coach again, an idea some already believe.

Tomlin could do media for a short while and then return to coaching. Tomlin has talked previously about a potential move to the media. He didn’t sound especially excited about it at the time. Of course, things may have changed. And the 2025 season was a grueling one at times, with fans chanting to fire him late in the year. With some time away from the game, working in the media could sound more appealing. If that’s something he pursues, Marchand expects it to be with NBC.
