The [New England Patriots](https://nesn.com/new-england-patriots) made a significant roster change on Monday, parting ways with backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs after one season.
Now that Dobbs is a free agent, teams might be looking to sign him as their No. 2 quarterback or potentially as a No. 3. There's also a chance he could reunite with a team he's played for before, which should be on the table.
Why The Browns Should Look To Sign Dobbs
----------------------------------------
The Cleveland Browns have made no changes to their quarterback room this offseason, which is quite telling given that they had one of the weakest quarterback situations in the NFL last season.
Dobbs already had two stints with the Browns, including 2022, when he backed up Jacoby Brissett for 11 games during Deshaun Watson's suspension. He had another opportunity during the 2023 training camp before Cleveland traded him to the Arizona Cardinals just before the regular season began.
It would make sense for the Browns to bring back Dobbs since general manager Andrew Berry has signed him twice already. Even though former head coach Kevin Stefanski, who worked with Dobbs during his two stints in Cleveland, is no longer with the Browns, new head coach Todd Monken has had great success working with athletic, mobile quarterbacks. Dobbs definitely fits that mold.
The Browns' quarterback room currently features two second-year players, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, alongside Watson, who is recovering from two torn Achilles injuries.
Cleveland has an underwhelming quarterback room at the moment, and this could change during this year's NFL draft. However, it should also look to bring in another veteran, and Dobbs may be the best veteran available on the market who can fit what Monken wants to implement.
It's unlikely that Dobbs would be the starter in Cleveland, but he could serve as a valuable veteran leader, supporting Sanders and Gabriel as they look to reach their goals in their second season.
