Baltimore Ravens urged to trade for Green Bay Packers wide receiver ahead of 2026 NFL Draft

The Baltimore Ravens have a new head coach in the defensive-minded Jesse Minter. With the departure of John Harbaugh after nearly two decades, there are certainly going to be many changes on both sides of the ball. Minter brought in a whole new coaching staff, and there could be some pretty exciting things happening in Baltimore this year.

Offensively, the Ravens hired Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator. Formerly of the Chicago Bears, Doyle worked under offensive guru Ben Johnson and may bring some intriguing new looks to the offense led by two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

That being said, the Ravens still may need some more weapons for their star quarterback, particularly at the wide receiver position.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (13) catches a touchdown pass against Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (11) during the second quarter of their wild card playoff game Sunday, January 14, 2024 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

While Baltimore boasts Zay Flowers as their top pass catching target, wide receiver depth has long been a frustration for the Ravens. As such, Bleacher Report suggested that they try to trade for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks:

“Baltimore needs to switch up its approach to bolstering its receiver room by targeting a younger player with more upside. The club can land a complementary playmaker to pair alongside Zay Flowers via trade with the Green Bay Packers, who have a crowded receiver room.

“As a rookie fifth-rounder out of Virginia, Dontayvion Wicks carved out a role in the Packers’ aerial attack, hauling in 39 passes for 581 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. But the rise of wideout Jayden Reed, along with the addition of first-rounder Matthew Golden, buried him on the depth chart. Also, tight end Tucker Kraft took on an expanded role in the passing game before he tore his ACL.

“Wicks has shown he can exceed the expectations of a Day 3 draft pick with limited opportunities in the passing game. However, unless the Packers trade one of the other receivers, he won’t reach his full potential with them.”

The problem with this trade proposal has nothing to do with Baltimore. However, there is some misunderstanding as to the “depth” of Green Bay’s wide receiver room.

They do have Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and Savion Williams on their roster in addition to Doubs. However, only Golden and Williams are under contract beyond 2026. Of course, Wicks is also going to be a free agent after this season, but the fact remains that the room is not as deep as the suggestion makes it seem.

Now, it is true that the Packers have entertained calls on Wicks in trade discussions this off-season. That being said, given their lack of first round pick and the shallow depth of their wide receiver room, they likely want more than just a fifth or sixth round pick in return for him.

Baltimore may not be willing to pay that price.
