The Los Angeles Lakers legend has been actively working on his plan, recently meeting with Nevada governor Joe Lombardo and other officials to discuss both ownership possibilities and the development of a new, state-of-the-art arena on the Las Vegas Strip, Evan Sidery reports.
Johnson is already involved in multiple sports ownership groups. He is a minority owner of the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Dodgers, LA Sparks, Los Angeles FC, and the Washington Spirit in the NWSL.
His interest comes at a key moment for the league. The NBA's Board of Governors has approved the start of a formal process to explore expansion, with Las Vegas and Seattle emerging as the main target markets for potential new franchises.
