Liverpool eyeing move to sign 'untouchable' Chelsea star, he's open to move - report

Liverpool are eyeing a summer move to sign Chelsea star Josh Acheampong to strengthen their defence, according to Caught Offside.

The Reds are well aware that they face a huge upcoming transfer window to rebuild their squad, with Mohamed Salah to depart on a free transfer, while there is still speculation over the future of Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires at the end of the season too.

The club have already splashed £60m to sign young French defender Jeremy Jacquet to bolster their squad for the new season, but with doubts over the futures of Andy Robertson, Konate, and Joe Gomez, they are now eyeing a move for another young defender for the squad.

Acheampong has been highly rated at Stamford Bridge since coming through their academy, but has been restricted to just 13 starts in 24 appearances so far this season, and that lack of game time has seen him linked with a move away.

GIVEMESPORT sources reported last year that Man City and Bayern Munich were monitoring his situation ahead of a potential move, however, Chelsea considered him untouchable at the time, seeing him as a major part of their future.

But a lack of game time since the turn of the year, with Acheampong managing just 482 minutes in 2026, has seen reports emerge that he could look to push for a move away from the club in order to secure more regular first-team football next season.

Liverpool are understood to hold a strong interest in the 19-year-old too, and have had representatives present at games to watch him on several occasions this season.

It's reported that his versatility and physical attributes make him a top contender for clubs looking to future-proof their defences, and with Chelsea's financial situation far from secure, a deal worth around £25.9m could be enough to convince them to sell if he agitates for a move.

Acheampong Could Be Perfect for Liverpool

With the way Liverpool like to play with a high line and leaving defenders in one on one situations, Acheampong could be the perfect arrival to help strengthen their back line.

Virgil Van Dijk will be 35 by the time next season begins, while there are no guarantees that Gomez and Konate will still be at Anfield. Jacquet's arrival is certainly a boost, while Giovanni Leoni's return from injury will be welcome, but neither have Premier League experience, and that makes them gambles.

Acheampong isn't the most experienced, but his quality is undeniable, and he knows the Premier League well. At a cut-price fee of £26m, it could turn out to be the bargain of the century if they can get him in, while weakening a direct rival in the process.
