The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced significant news for the 2026-27 season, with six months left to go.

On Wednesday, March 25, the Seattle Seahawks announced news about their upcoming season, which they’re hoping will turn out to be just as historic as the last. The 2026-27 NFL season may seem like an eternity from now, but we’re at the halfway mark, with six months left to go.

The Seahawks, of course, are coming off a Super Bowl win, bringing home the trophy to Seattle for the second time in franchise history. The team has lost some player during the offseason, including Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III, but head coach Mike Macdonald is smart and working with the budget they have to crafter another Super Bowl-level team.

So, now, it’s time for this team to get ready for a second run to the big game, and now, they have more of their 2026-27 schedule set. The Seahawks also know who they’ll be playing for their very first showdown.

Seattle Seahawks Get News on 2026-27 Schedule

On Wednesday, March 25, the Seahawks announced that Seattle will host the NFL’s first game of the season on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Lumen Field. The game will air on NBC, and kickoff will start at 5:20 p.m. PT. The team has yet to get an opponent for the game, but that announcement will be made “later this spring,” according to the team.

So, why a Wednesday? That’s an honest question. As it turns out, the NFL’s season-opener will be played on a Wednesday instead of the typical Thursday night game because the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers will play an international game in Australia on Thursday, September 10.

“The Seahawks will be added to a short list of teams to have played a game on a Wednesday. Since 1950, there have been just four games that have been played on Wednesday,” the team’s official website explains. “And by playing a game on a Wednesday, the Seahawks will become the ninth current NFL team to have played a game on every day of the week.”

They add that Seattle will join a handful of other teams who have completed the feat, including the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants and Washington Commanders. The full NFL schedule is expected to arrive in May.

Seattle Seahawks in the NFL Draft

As the NFL draft approaches, NFL analysts and experts are making predictions about who the Seahawks will pick with their 32nd choice. Bucky Brooks of the NFL’s official website has a draft projection out on Tuesday, March 24, that takes into account recent happenings.

“The free agency frenzy reshuffled rosters across the league, while a series of trades addressed (and created) team needs,” he states in the piece. “In the wake of all that player movement — and a month away from the 2026 NFL Draft — it’s time for my third attempt at forecasting how the entire first round will play out in Pittsburgh.”

He has them picking cornerback Brandon Cisse out of South Carolina. “The Seahawks rarely turn down the opportunity to add a playmaking cover corner to the lineup,” he states. “Cisse is an athletic freak with the speed, quickness and skills to carve out an immediate role on the perimeter.”
