The Chiefs ultimately lost, eliminating the team from playoff contention for the first time in 10 years.
One day after the injury, Mahomes underwent surgery to repair his ACL and has been on a road to recovery ever since. He's been optimistic about his recovery timeline, too, speaking out about the injury one month after.
"The doctor kind of gives you goals to get to," the NFL star said, sharing that he's been "hitting all the checkpoints" in rehab in attempt to be ready for training camp this fall. "I just try to maximize those — they hold me back, because I always want to go a little bit further."

Mahomes said he wants to be "ready for Week 1," noting that the doctors said he "could be" but couldn't predict what happens throughout the process. "You want to be out there healthy and give us the best chance to win," he said.
The QB's training update comes shortly after his longtime teammate Travis Kelce confirmed that he's returning to the Chiefs for a 14th season. He signed a one-year, $12M contract with the team.
The Chiefs shared a behind-the-scenes video of the milestone day, which featured Mahomes suprising Kelce, 36, with a call to congratulate him on the news. The star quarterback ringed the tight end via FaceTime, and shared an amped-up message in support.
"Congrats man," Mahomes tells an excited Kelce, who then shows off his facial hair in the video. "With the beard too?" Mahomes jokes, adding, "I just wanted to call to say congratulations. I know you've got stuff going on."
As Mahomes takes time to recover and put in the rehab work to be back to great health for the upcoming NFL season, he's also been spending time with his family.
Most recently, Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, went on a family beach vacation. They soaked up the sun alongside their three kids: Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3, and Golden Raye, 1.
