Seahawks officially re-sign key special teams player

The Seattle Seahawks made another re-signing official on Wednesday, inking key special teams player Chazz Surratt to a one-year contract.

It was initially reported last week that the 29-year-old linebacker had agreed to re-sign with the Seahawks.

“We have a great team, great culture here,” Surratt told Seahawks.com. “So excited to be back with the guys and get back to work.”

Surratt finished second on the Seahawks with 11 special teams tackles in 11 games this past season. He also logged 181 special teams snaps, which were sixth-most on the team.

Surratt missed the final six games of the 2025 regular season with an ankle injury. He was designated to return to practice during the playoffs and was activated ahead of the Super Bowl, but was inactive for Seattle’s championship victory over the New England Patriots.

A former quarterback at the University of North Carolina, Surratt moved to linebacker and was a third-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. After getting released by Minnesota, he landed with the New York Jets and became a key special teams player with them in 2023 and 2024.

Surratt signed with the San Francisco 49ers last offseason, but was released during roster cutdowns. The Seahawks then swooped in and signed him to their 53-man roster last August.
