NFL teams under heavy criticism over tush push decision

NFL insider Mike Florio sent a strong message to all the teams that tried to ban the Philadelphia Eagles’ version of the QB sneak, the so-called “tush push.” After the Green Bay Packers proposed to ban the play at the 2025 Annual Meeting, the situation looks completely different this year.

The proposal fell short by only two votes. The Eagles continued to use the play, but they couldn’t replicate the same success they enjoyed in 2025, and all of a sudden, everybody forgot about the tush push. On Wednesday, Florio called out the teams for trying to use off-field methods to stop the play.

“What happened? Last year, ‘tush push unsafe,’ ‘tush push doesn’t look like football,’ ‘tush push, it must go,'” Florio said with an ironic tone. “Simple explanation: Eagles didn’t win the Super Bowl again. Eagles lost in the wild-card round. Tush push is all of a sudden not a priority, because it’s no longer as effective as it was. And it really is that simple.

“The Eagles had found something that they could do well, no one could stop and no one else could do. Now that the Eagles didn’t win the Super Bowl, tush push takes a back burner to other things for 2026.”

During a recent appearance on Tom Curran’s Patriots Talk, Mike Florio revealed that a source with knowledge of the situation thinks the Eagles should move on from AJ Brown before 2027.

“I had somebody who is in position to have a reason to understand the dynamics of the Eagles’ salary cap into the future,” said Florio. “And this person, early in free agency, insisted the Eagles have to trade A.J. Brown before next year. That if they make the move next year, it’s going to wreak havoc on their salary cap.

“…If a trade happens, when a trade happens, and people around the league are saying a trade will happen. It will happen on or after June 2 with A.J. Brown most likely being traded to the New England Patriots.”

The Patriots seem like clear favorites to land Brown. However, after the Eagles signed Elijah Moore, a close friend of Brown, the situation could become more complex.
