Seahawks file plans for VMAC addition

RENTON — The Seahawks have filed plans with the city of Renton for a possible addition of up to 80,000-square feet to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

A team spokesperson confirmed the news, which was first revealed this week by the Daily Journal of Commerce.

There is no current date for when the project could begin, but the Seahawks filed the plans in December as a procedural step to get the process started.

The DJC stated that construction could begin this summer with a possible completion date in the fall of 2028.

The addition would add space for offices for both the football and business sides of the organization.

As detailed by the DJC, the addition would be to the east side of the VMAC, or the side facing Interstate 405, and could also include an expansion in parking spots from roughly 275 to about 435.

The VMAC opened in 2008 after the team moved out of its previous facility in Kirkland and currently sits at 200,000 square feet. The Seahawks have made gradual improvements to the VMAC in recent years including a renovation of the weight and training rooms that was completed last summer.

The renovations and additions have come as the Seahawks are also now up for sale with team chair Jody Allen officially announcing that it has begun a formal sale process last month.

There have yet to be reports of any potential new owners or ownership groups.
