APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is turning touchdowns into new cleats for local kids.
On Wednesday, area teams received their cleats as part of his “10ve for Cleats” campaign.
What was supposed to be a quick pickup for three sports teams in Appleton turned into an unexpected surprise when Love walked in.
“It’s amazing. Just being able to be here, see the reactions the kids get and just be around them and then obviously hopefully it’s something that helps repel them in their season and they go out and have some success on the field,” Love said.

For every touchdown scored, passing and rushing, in the season, Love pledged to donate new cleats to a youth sports team.
This year, 46 total teams will receive cleats from the campaign. 23 teams are in Wisconsin and 23 in Love’s hometown of Bakersfield, California.
Appleton West High School softball, Water Cities Soccer Club, and Gillett High School baseball and softball teams received their pairs from Love on Wednesday.
“Some, some kids might have stopped playing sports because they weren’t able to receive all the equipment or pay for all of the equipment. So it’s something that I just wanted to find a way to keep kids involved with sports because I think there’s so many great lessons they learn from it so if giving them a brand new pair of cleats is something that’s going to help them stay involved and help them keep coming back year after year, that’s why I want to do it,” Love said.

Nearly 2,000 cleats will be donated this year.
“I want to get that number up next year, throw even more touchdowns and get even more teams involved. But the impact is there and like I mentioned just to be able to be here for some of these is a special part,” Love said.
