Chelsea’s owners are ready to back Liam Rosenior even if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Although the 41-year old was only appointed in January he has come under pressure for his job, after a series of disappointing results. The club were humiliated over two legs in the Champions League by PSG, whilst defeat at Everton in their last Premier League match before the break leaves them sixth in the table, which would not be good enough to qualify for the Champions League.
But despite widespread discontent among the fans about the BlueCo consortium, he still retains the support of the Board, and they are prepared to give him a greater say in the club’s summer transfer dealings than was afforded to his predecessor Enzo Maresca.
That in itself can be regarded as a tacit admission that the problems at the club do not belong solely in the manager’s office.
