NBA champion sets Lakers' playoff ceiling, predicts disappointing exit

Former NBA star Paul Pierce believes the Lakers' ceiling this season is reaching the second round of the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Lakers' current 10-1 stretch has many fans believing they could be legitimate championship contenders, but not everyone is convinced about their playoff chances.

Former NBA star Paul Pierce believes the Lakers have what it takes to make it out of the first round - but that may be their ceiling.

"Like I said throughout the course of the year that the Lakers won't make it out the first round. Because I wasn't sure if LeBron can play the role he was playing right now. Now that he's morphed into this guy to where all right I'll be our 3rd best player, on some nights 2nd or 1st. But he is embracing that now and the chemistry looks a lot better. And now they're playing best basketball of the year. Do I think they get out the 2nd round? I think that's their ceiling," Pierce said on the No Fouls Given podcast.

The Lakers are currently third in the Western Conference with a 47-26 record, 1.5 games ahead of the Denver Nuggets, who sit fourth in the standings.
