'Impressed me a lot': Moises Caicedo admits one thing has'surprised'him about Chelsea

Having commanded a British-record transfer fee himself, Moises Caicedo knows elite quality when he sees it, and he’s found plenty of it within Chelsea’s youth ranks.

While his midfield partner Enzo Fernandez has recently hinted at a potential move to Real Madrid, Moises Caicedo has taken a slightly different stance. In a recent interview, the 24-year-old reaffirmed his total commitment to the Blues, stating his desire to “become a legend” at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo’s loyalty has provided a significant morale boost to supporters during a period of concern. With a contract running until 2031 and a clear dedication to the long-term project, Caicedo remains the cornerstone of Chelsea’s future.

And it’s not just the first team that he’s pleased with at Chelsea, as the academy is also catching his eye.

If you could pick Chelsea’s next no.10, would you have Bellingham or Rogers?

Moises Caicedo left impressed by Chelsea’s academy players

Speaking on Chelsea‘s latest edition of ‘lifting the lid’, Moises Caicedo has shared his opinion on the academy players who have stepped up to the first team.

What is the one thing that has surprised you about Chelsea?

“The quality of the young players. When they come up from the Under-21s, they show they are so good, so that impressed me a lot.”

The likes of Reggie Watson, Reggie Walsh, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Jesse Derry and Shim Mheuka have all trained with the first team in the current campaign.

And Derry has even stayed with the first team in recent games.

The future is bright for the Chelsea academy

The recent wave of international call-ups across Chelsea’s youth ranks highlights the staggering depth of talent currently developing at Cobham.

Leading the charge is Shim Mheuka, who has been in devastating form for the U21s, racking up 16 goals and even featuring on the bench for the senior team’s Champions League clashes. His U19 partner, Jesse Derry, has been equally instrumental, contributing 6 goals and 3 assists.

Meanwhile, at Peterborough, Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s development has gone into overdrive; his 11-goal haul in League One has made his recall to the national setup a formality.

The depth extends to the defensive and midfield units, where Harrison Murray-Campbell has captained the U21s with a maturity that belies his age. In the younger brackets, Landon Emenalo, son of former director Michael, who has become a fixture for the U21s at just 18.

With emerging names like Ibrahim Rabbaj and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen also making significant jumps in their goal contributions, the academy’s standard remains the envy of the Premier League.
