NFL pushes back Tom Brady’s sensational return to football

Three years after playing his final snap in the NFL, Tom Brady revealed he attempted to return to the field once again. After he unretired to play another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady called it a day during the 2022 NFL playoffs.

A lot has been said about another potential comeback, but the quarterback always pushed back that idea. He participated in a competitive game over the weekend, playing flag football in Los Angeles. He couldn’t win a single game despite showing flashes of his talent.

Even though he has no plans to return to the field, Brady revealed he asked about the likelihood of playing as a minority owner. He told CNBC Sport this week that he asked the league about the possibility of returning to play while keeping his stake in the Raiders.

“I actually have inquired, and they don’t like that idea very much,” Brady said. “We explored a lot of different things, and I’m very happily retired. Let me just say that, too.”

If he were serious about it, Brady would need to divest his ownership stake in Las Vegas. A 2023 policy prohibits players or team employees from taking equity in a franchise.

It seems that Tom Brady is very comfortable with his minority owner role within the Raiders. While that could serve as a first step to become a majority owner eventually, the New England Patriots icon doesn’t see it happening. During an appearance on FOX Business’ “Mornings with Maria,” Brady said he is not pushing that.

“Great question. I gotta work pretty hard. I paid ordinary income taxes for a very long time in the NFL,” he said. “And these valuations have gotten very expensive.”

He has a strong voice within the Raiders, which makes him control certain things that not many minority owners can.
