The Green Bay Packers were decimated with key injuries during the 2025 NFL season. Tight end Tucker Kraft was emerging as one of the top tight ends in the NFL, but his season was cut short because of a knee injury. Kraft will be entering his fourth NFL season with the Packers.

He was a third-round selection from the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the 2023 NFL Draft. Kraft has proven over his three seasons with Green Bay that he no doubt deserves a second contract. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract. It would be a major fail if Green Bay can not sign him to a contract extension.

If the Packers mess up and let him hit the free agent market, ESPN’s Matt Bowen thinks that Kraft is one going to be one of the top tight end free agents on the market. Bowen said, “Kraft was amid a breakout season in 2025 before anACL injury in Week 9. At that point, he had 32 receptions for 489 yards and six touchdowns. At 6-foot-5, 259 pounds, Kraft is a physical target in the route tree who can rumble after the catch.” Kraft is no doubt going to be the top receiving option for quarterback Jordan Love entering next season.

He was proving to be one of the top tight ends in the league before the injury. Kraft should be the main target other than Matthew Golden in this offense entering next season. It would be smart for Green Bay to get him a new contract before training camp begins. It would not be smart for them to not give him one. If he has a big year, his asking price might go up. The Packers would be wise to make this move now rather than later.
