The Green Bay Packers have had many critical decisions to make with its wide receivers over the last few seasons. Green Bay this offseason decided not to re-sign Romeo Doubs. He signed a new contract with the New England Patriots. Another wide receiver that will become a free agent after the 2026 NFL season is Christian Watson.

Chicago Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright (26) throws the game ball into the crowd as Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (9) reacts to losing the game at the end of their wild-card playoff football game Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
He was a second-round selection from the North Dakota State Bison in 2022. This will be Watson’s fifth season in the NFL. During the 2025 NFL season, he caught 35 passes for 611 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 17.5 yards per reception. Watson was targeted 55 times, and he also rushed for three yards on one carry. At times, he has shown his talent, but his health over his NFL career has been a major concern. There is a chance that this could be the last year of him being in a Packers uniform.

Matt Bowen of ESPN listed his top free agents in 2027 at each position. Despite having injury issues in his career, he thinks that Watson will be one of the top wide receiver free agents available next year. Bowen said, “Since entering the league in 2022, Watson has never played a full season due to injuries. But the 2025 tape tells us the arrow could be pointing up for him. With the 4.3 speed and vertical ability to threaten defenses, Watson is a proven target on the boundary who has averaged 17.3 yards per catch over his career.”
If Green Bay does not bring him back after next season, it probably means that Watson was injured again or they don’t want to give him a big contract. There might be a team that could potentially overpay for him if he has a big 2026 season. Green Bay has better receiving options on the roster like Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and Tucker Kraft as well. Watson is 26 years old, but he has already been taking a beating at the NFL level.
