Rodri has been linked with a move to join Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Man City will have been delighted to beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, and claim their first piece of silverware of the season. One of the star performers in the game was midfielder Rodri, who looked back to his best.
It’s fair to say that Rodri has struggled to replicate the form of 2023/24 since his ACL injury, but on Sunday, he looked to control the game in midfield and helped Man City to what turned out to be a dominant victory.
Rodri hints that he’d join Real Madrid
Speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Rodri said: “You can’t just turn down the best clubs in the world. I’ve got a year left on my contract; the time will come when we’ll have to sit down and talk.”
Rodri previously came through the academy at Real Madrid’s rivals Atletico Madrid, but playing for the rivals is clearly something that doesn’t bother the midfielder, and he is certainly not closing the door to a move away from the Etihad this summer.
The Spanish international has an estimated market value of £56m, and still holds a lot of value, despite being 29. During his time at Man City, Rodri has won four Premier League titles and a Champions League.
Man City plan to replace Rodri with Anderson
Amid the rumours of Rodri potentially leaving, Man City need to have a contingency plan in order to replace the midfielder should he decide to make the move to Real Madrid this summer.
Unless Forest get relegated, Anderson is expected to command a hefty fee of around £100m, because of his impressive performances both for club and country. He will be expecting to play a major role in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad during the World Cup, so Man City should try to make a move before his market value increases even more.
Rivals Man United have also been linked to signing Anderson, but it is understood that City are currently ahead in the race, and are the frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old ahead of the summer.
