Kings vs. Magic: Keegan Murray, Russell Westbrook, Jalen Suggs injury news

The Sacramento Kings provided medical updates on two key players as they prepared to play the Orlando Magic on Thursday at Kia Center in the second game of a five-game road trip.

Keegan Murray could be nearing a return after missing the past 12 games with a left ankle sprain. The Kings said Murray continues to make “good progress” in the “return to play process” and has been approved to begin contact basketball activities.

Russell Westbrook underwent an MRI after missing the past two games due to right foot soreness. The team said imaging was consistent with irritation in the joint of the first toe on his right foot, adding that further updates will be provided as appropriate without providing a timeline for Westbrook’s return.

The Kings (19-54) opened their road trip with a 134-90 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday. They have the worst record in the Western Conference and the fourth-worst record in the NBA, 1 ½ games better than the Washington Wizards, two games better than the Brooklyn Nets and three games better than the Indiana Pacers.

The Magic (38-34) has lost six in a row. Orlando is tied for ninth in the Eastern Conference, two games behind the Toronto Raptors for the sixth and final automatic playoff berth with an almost-insurmountable nine-game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls for the final play-in spot.

The Kings are listing Precious Achiuwa (back) and Killian Hayes (toe) as questionable for Thursday’s game against Orlando. Nique Clifford (foot), Drew Eubanks (thumb), De’Andre Hunter (eye), Zach LaVine (finger) and Domantas Sabonis (knee) have been ruled out along with Murray and Westbrook.

Jalen Suggs (illness) is questionable for the Magic. Anthony Black (abdominal), Jonathan Isaac (knee) and Franz Wagner (ankle) have been ruled out.
