Berta means business: Arsenal open talks to sign "unstoppable" £87m forward in blow to Tottenham

Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of a highly sought-after forward, who is also being targeted by Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Gunners vying to sign new forward after EFL Cup final defeat

Although the Gunners came up short against Manchester City in the EFL Cup final, losing 2-0 at Wembley, club legend Nigel Winterburn still believes they are on course to have a successful end to the campaign.

Winterburn said: "I am not worried going forward. We are leading the Premier League and still have the FA Cup and the Champions League.

"I think Man City wanted to make a statement, but it doesn’t affect anything in the league. Arsenal still have the point advantage and we just need to take it game by game. The next league match will be hugely important and they have to keep going. I am not really worried."

Indeed, Mikel Arteta's side still have plenty to play for, but there may be some concerns about Bukayo Saka's form heading into the business end of the season.

The England international has just two goals to his name in his last 15 Premier League matches, and struggled to make an impact against Man City at the weekend, failing to create a big chance and recording just one accurate cross.

With Saka not at his best, and Leandro Trossard receiving criticism for some of his recent performances, the north Londoners have now stepped up their pursuit of a new forward.

"Unstoppable" forward holds talks over Emirates Stadium move

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Arsenal have now held talks about a deal for RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, but they may have to shell out the huge fee of €100m (£87m) to get a deal over the line.

Liverpool are also pursuing the Ivorian, alongside Tottenham, who remain keen, but the Gunners are now looking to hijack the deal, having engaged in discussions with his representatives.

Sporting director Andrea Berta means business, having set out to sign an in-demand forward, who has also attracted interest from Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, and he could be an exciting addition to Arteta's squad.

Lauded as "unstoppable" by journalist Bence Bocsak, the 19-year-old has been tearing it up in the Bundesliga this season, contributing ten goals and seven assists in 26 appearances for RB Leipzig.

Having averaged a FotMob match rating of 7.62, the Ivory Coast international is ranked as the second-best performing player in the squad, and he has completed more successful dribbles per 90 than any other RB Leipzig player (4.2).

Arsenal's top dribblers (Premier League 25/26) Average per 90

Noni Madueke 2.4

Bukayo Saka 2.2

Gabriel Martinelli 1.9

Eberechi Eze 1.4

Leandro Trossard 0.9

With Trossard struggling, failing to find the net in his last 11 Premier League outings, it would be a savvy move to bring in a new left-winger this summer, and Diomande is at the right age to be a long-term success in north London.
