49ers Urged to Bring Back Former Star to Help Brock Purdy

The first couple of weeks of free agency have passed, and there has been little to no buzz surrounding Washington Commanders free agent Deebo Samuel.

He’s no longer a superstar, but he had a pretty decent season for Dan Quinn’s team, especially considering Jayden Daniels’ injuries.

That’s why former San Francisco 49ers star Richard Sherman would love to see him back in the Bay Area. In the latest edition of his podcast, he argued that a reunion made a lot of sense for both parties:

“San Francisco,” Sherman said. “It all leads back home for these guys that’s where he’s had his greatest success. He had an All-Pro season in San Francisco because Kyle (Shanahan) uses him in very unique ways that really showcase his abilities in really cool fashions. And, again, with Mike Evans in the fold, he takes so much pressure off everyone else.”

Sherman admitted that he didn’t know whether Samuel would want to return or if Niners GM John Lynch was interested in a reunion. That said, it makes perfect sense from a football perspective.

According to Spotrac, Samuel is projected to sign a two-year contract worth $31.5 million, an average annual value of roughly $15.8 million. That may not be in the cards in San Francisco, but they can probably get him at a discount if he wants to head back to the team he played his best football with.

Brock Purdy already got a new prime weapon in Mike Evans, but no team ever has enough weapons. Also, with Jauan Jennings likely leaving, there could still be more than enough touches for Samuel to make some noise.

Samuel may no longer be the same All-Pro-caliber dual-threat guy anymore, but he showed that he still has plenty left in the tank in his lone season in the nation’s capital.
