Man United have begun putting their summer transfer plans into action.
Furthermore, next season could see the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes leave for free, as their contracts are due to expire at the end of next season. Man United have already begun working on plans.
Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd close to Mainoo and Maguire deals
Both Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire have seen an increase in their game time under Carrick, and both look to be back to their best. Both Maguire and Mainoo are now in contention for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad again, and they’ll both be looking forward to next season, hopefully under Carrick.
But, Mainoo’s contract expires in 2027, and Maguire’s expires this summer, so Man United are reportedly working to secure both players before the transfer window opens in June.
According to Journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United are close to completing deals to keep both players around for longer. Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Then, quick confirmation on Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo. Maguire’s new deal – almost done, valid until 2027, with an additional year option to 2028.
“And Kobbie Mainoo – negotiations for his new long-term contract are in the final stages. Target is to get everything signed before the end of this season – a five-year deal until June 2031, with improved salary and key role guaranteed.
“Both sides are optimistic – it’s almost there. United see Mainoo’s renewal as a priority for the future.”
Mainoo has been rejuvenated under Carrick
Mainoo looked earlier in the season as if his Man United career could have been over, as he was completely cast aside by Ruben Amorim. Reports linked him with a move away in January, but somewhat strangely, Amorim didn’t want to sell him.
As soon as Carrick came in, it was very quickly evident that he would utilise Mainoo, and he really has. The 21-year-old has become a prominent figure in Man United’s midfield yet again, performing at the level that all Man United fans kept telling Amorim that he could do.
Mainoo seems happier in himself again, and it looks now as though a new long-term contract will be rewarded after an excellent spell. Mainoo will be eagerly anticipating who Man United will decide to replace Casemiro with in the summer, as he will get a new long-term midfield partner. If United sign the right player, it could further boost Mainoo’s prospects over the coming seasons.
