Rundown: Recap of Texas Tech’s Pro Day

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Today, Texas Tech football hosted its annual pro day, giving NFL Draft eligible Red Raiders the chance to shine in front of the entire league - literally.

All 32 NFL teams were in attendance inside the Womble Football Training Facility, including four NFL head coaches:

* Brian Schottenheimer, Dallas Cowboys

* Kellen Moore, New Orleans Saints

* Aaron Glenn, New York Jets,

* Zac Taylor, Cincinnati Bengals

Oh, and a familiar name who plays a big part in Texas Tech Athletics was there, too: Patrick Mahomes.

But, it was all about the next class of Red Raiders who are trying to prove themselves and hear their name called over the speakers during the NFL Draft from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.

KCBD’s Brandon Soliz gives you his key takeaways from today’s event.

_**Key takeaways**_:

**1)** To begin, the presence of every NFL team made this one different. This isn’t surprising to see with how the Red Raiders played last year; reaching the College Football Playoff, winning the Big 12 Conference title and producing one of the best defenses in the country. With that said, it was mostly about the defense ... until Brady Boyd, who actually wasn’t a Red Raider last year but the year prior, sped through his 40-yard dash - _twice_. Boyd was at Utah State last year and caught 46 passes for 743 yards and a touchdown. He was invited to Lubbock to participate in pro day. He blew everyone away with a 4.40 40-yard dash on his first run and then a 4.38 on his second attempt. He definitely caught the eyes of everyone in attendance.

**2)** Now focusing on Red Raiders from last year, David Bailey, Romello Height and Lee Hunter were the center of attention, specifically Bailey.

He is projected as high as N0. 2 in the NFL Draft, which belongs to the New York Jets. Speaking of, the Jets’ head coach Aaron Glenn, as mentioned before, was there to see his potential game-changing defender in person.

Bailey’s game film proves for itself but today he showed off his skills during sled drills, cone drills and more.

If the Jets pass on him, teams right behind in the draft order were there today including the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals.

**3)** Safety Cole Wisniewski had a solid performance today. However, it’s something that caught my attention towards the end of drills. Joey McGuire and Brian Schottenheimer were speaking for quite a minute on the sideline. That is until Schottenheimer saw Dallas Cowboys’ Director of College Scouting speaking to Wisniewski in the middle of the field during drills.

It will be interesting to see how relationships like this, that are made on pro days, go for players like Wisniewski who’s looking to get a shot at the next level.

**4)** Bryce Ramirez was probably the player that took the biggest leap for himself on pro day. He put up 31 bench press reps while running a 4.72 and 4.64 40-yard dash.

This is huge for an athlete who broke his leg and battled through tough times the past few years. He’s a guy that’s worked for what he’s earned including a job at Pizza Hut with no scholarship, to making it simply on the kickoff return squad. He said himself that the journey’s been a long one but today proved he could find himself on an NFL roster, or at least practice squad, with a shot at playing in the NFL.
