Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has been linked to several teams in the mid to late rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft. One quarterback needy franchise that’s been linked to Simpson has been the Cleveland Browns who will likely be going back to the well this draft cycle under new head coach Todd Monken.

Analysts have raved about Ty Simpson’s performance during his Pro Day this past week, with some believing that he could be the best quarterback in the draft. But NFL analyst Mel Kiper is not one of those people.

During an appearance on ESPN, Kiper gave his insight into Simpson’s drat stock as it related to the number of teams showing interest. However, when it came to the Browns, Kiper advised the franchise to not go with Simpson for he believes that Shedeur Sanders in the better quarterback.

“The Jets have to be figuring out Ty Simpson, the Steelers have to figure out Ty Simpson, and now, certainly, Arizona has to; to trade back and get him,” Kiper said. “The Browns don’t have to worry about Ty Simpson. They got a better quarterback than Ty Simpson in Shedeur Sanders. Don’t go there.”

Kiper has sang the praises of Sanders all the back to last draft cycle as he consistently admonished teams who passed on the son of NFL legend and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Going into the 2025 draft Kiper had Sanders rated as one of his top quarterbacks but ultimately fell all the way to the fifth round to Cleveland. In his first season with the Browns, Sanders would appear in eight games passing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, 10 interceptions and completed 56.6% of his passes.

But Monken’s ties to Simpson are undeniable as he tried to recruit him out of high school when he was at Georgia and could look at the former Crimson Tide quarterback to kick start the team’s new era.
