Analyst questions Chargers' free agency approach for Justin Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers' offseason is one that is a little tricky to wrap your head around.

The franchise has cap space, yet appears reluctant to use it. When you have Justin Herbert getting sacked 54 times last year, the third most in football, plus having average weapons, one would think the franchise would be proactive.

Granted, some nice pieces have come in, like Tyler Biadasz and Charlie Kolar, but the Chargers haven't done enough for most to see another big step in their development.

And NFL.com's Jeffri Chadiha wonders if L.A. has done enough for its franchise quarterback this offseason.

"Are the Chargers doing enough to make Justin Herbert's life easier? The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback deserved plenty of credit for the beating he endured while leading this team to the playoffs for a second consecutive season," Chadiha wrote.

"The Chargers obviously can't afford to take a step back, given how competitive the AFC West has become. There are more moves to be made with this franchise before we have a better sense of how safe Herbert will be this fall."

Will Chargers spend in free agency?

Well, fans will hope so, right?

Granted, there is still plenty of time for the Chargers to add some nice pieces around Herbert, and they have the cap space to do it.

The big question is, do they want to?

Is banking on the internal development, plus the returns of Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, enough for the Chargers to be taken seriously as a genuine contender in 2026?

Color me skeptical on that.
