The Detroit Lions are announcing Jameson Williams news during the NFL offseason, and let's just say it's his day.
The Detroit Lions are in the offseason, but they’re still making moves and celebrating players, such as wide receiver Jameson Williams. During the 2025-26 season, Williams notched 65 receptions for 1,117 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 17 games, according to ESPN research. He also averaged 17.2 yards per reception and added nine rushing yards, so he was on fire.
So, Williams is one of the team’s star player. That’s why general manager Brad Holmes signed him to a three-year extension worth up to $83 million back in 2025.
Williams was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 draft. He came to Detroit following a torn ACL from college in his rookie year and a pair of suspensions, but he had a fantastic season in 2024 and hasn’t looked back. Now, it’s his special day.
Detroit Lions Send Message to Wide Receiver Jameson Williams
On Thursday, March 26, the Detroit Lions sent a special message out to Williams. The team wished him a very happy birthday. “WAYMO blessings, happy birthday,” the team’s post on X stated.
“Happy birthday, King,” one follower said. “Happy birthday, young man. I wish you the best of days and the best in the upcoming NFL season,” another one said.
“Still remember when all the casuals were calling him a bust always knew bro was going to be good happy birthday, goat,” one more said.
Looking Ahead to the NFL Draft for the Detroit Lions
The 2026 NFL draft is coming up in April, and in a Tuesday, March 24, feature for ESPN, NFL expert Field Yates gives his picks for which players will go to which teams.
“We still have a long road ahead, with pro days just starting up around the country,” Yates states in the feature, which covers two rounds. “But for now, it’s safe to make some predictions for the first two rounds based on team needs, my personal rankings and what I’m hearing from people around the league.” He also applies recent free agency and trade moves to his picks, so they’re up-to-date choices.
The Detroit Lions’ first pick is at No. 17, and Yates sees them going with Kadyn Proctor, offensive tackle, out of Alabama. “Left tackle is a sizable need for Detroit with the departure of Taylor Decker after 10 seasons,” he says in the piece.
But, for the team’s No. 50 pick, he wants them to get much-needed pass rusher help in Gabe Jacas out of Illinois.
“Certain players just look like they’d fit in coach Dan Campbell’s program — and Jacas is one of them. He’s a hard-nosed rusher with heavy hands and a dedication to defending the run with 21 run stuffs over the past two seasons,” he states in the feature. “The Lions must continue to stockpile young rushers to complement Aidan Hutchinson.”
It’s true that they absolutely need someone to pair with Hutchinson. General manager Brad Holmes hasn’t been keen on using a top pick on a pass rusher for the team, but maybe this is the year that will change that. It would certainly help the team to have edge assistance.
