WASHINGTON, D.C. (WILX) - Both Michigan State freshman Cam Ward and Jordan Scott are returning close to home for Michigan State’s Sweet 16 matchup with UConn on Friday.
Ward played a game at halftime of a Washington Wizards game at Capital One Arena as a kid, and he grew up attending games as well. Ward said he had a lot of friends and family coming to the game on Friday, and he was excited to play close to home.
“It’s a full circle moment just to think that at one point you were a kid just admiring the arena and just always thinking about trying to play at home, and now you have the opportunity to make something happen that could be a legacy here. I’m definitely excited to just try and make an impact, and we need two wins,” said Ward.
Scott, on the other hand, never played a game at Capital One Arena but instead rebounded for the Washington Mystics, and his mom brought him to work plenty of times as well.
“I’ve been in this arena hundreds of times. My mom worked here, so I was here with her all the time. I used to rebound for the Washington Mystics players. I’ve never played here before, so this is going to be my first time, but I’ve been here just like 100 times.
Michigan State will face UConn in the Sweet 16 at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday.
