Depot After Dark: Sawyer At Pro Day, David Thinks Tom Brady Could Play For Steelers, Steelers…

A Steelers Depot daily segment. A quick hit of some Pittsburgh Steelers-related stories that may not require a complete article, but nuggets worth mentioning and passing on to you guys.

Your Depot After Dark for March 26.

SAWYER AT PRO DAY

Edge rusher is one of the Steelers’ greatest strengths. T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith are one of the NFL’s best duos. However, that didn’t stop them from adding to that room last year. They spent a fourth-round pick on Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer, and he had a fine rookie season. Sawyer only had one sack, but he also recorded two interceptions. That’s not a bad year for a rookie depth piece.

Sawyer hopes to build on that in his second season. Although he’s still a backup, he can still impact the game. He took time to return to his roots this offseason, making an appearance at Ohio State’s Pro Day. Maybe he was helping the Steelers scout some of his former teammates, but he was likely there to support his friends. Ohio State has a lot of premier draftable talent this year.

DAVID THINKS TOM BRADY COULD PLAY FOR STEELERS

Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time, and he’s arguably the greatest NFL player ever, too. No one was as dominant for as long as he was. Although he retired after the 2022 season, he looked like he had gas left in the tank at a recent flag football event. Brady’s performance has generated discussion about whether he could still play in the NFL.

Recently retired linebacker Lavonte David, who played with Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was recently asked on CBS Sports HQ if the quarterback could still start for several teams. He had the Steelers on that list. Brady’s age and resumé would probably make him appealing to the Steelers. After all, they’re already pursuing Aaron Rodgers. However, it sounds like Brady will remain retired.

STEELERS MET WITH BYU OL

The Steelers are hot on the Pro Day trail, getting a closer look at many prospects. They’ve also brought several players in for pre-draft interviews. Considering they have so much draft capital, they have plenty of chances to improve their team.

Packers Report’s Easton Butler shared on Twitter that the Steelers met with BYU offensive lineman Austin Leausa at the American Bowl. As Butler also said, Leausa was a versatile player in college, playing guard and tackle. The Steelers could add to both those positions, so perhaps Leausa could help them kill two birds with one stone.
