Manchester United have opened talks over a statement summer deal for Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, according to reports.
The Old Trafford side are in the market for a new left-back and have reportedly identified Davies as a potential option ahead of a busy transfer window.
While United’s priority remains a midfielder, with talks ongoing for Newcastle star Sandro Tonali, reinforcements in the wide defensive areas have also been earmarked as something to address.
United have been heavily reliant on Luke Shaw since moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation under interim boss Michael Carrick, as Patrick Dorgu is injured and Tyrell Malacia is on the fringes of the squad.

According to TEAMtalk, Davies has reportedly been offered to a host of Premier League clubs ahead of the summer, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all being made aware of his potential availability.
Such claims are surprising, given the Canada international only penned a new four-year deal with Bayern in February last year, keeping him at the club until 2030.
Davies missed the first half of the season due to a serious ACL injury, making only 13 appearances in all competitions so far.
The 24-year-old, praised as the 'Usain Bolt of Football' for his pace, also missed Bayern’s last three games due to a hamstring strain.

While Mazraoui has been in and out of the squad due to minor injuries and participation in the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco at the turn of the year, De Ligt’s situation continues to raise questions.
The Dutch defender has not played since November 30 due to a back problem and could miss the rest of the season due to ongoing issues in the area.
