Field Yates, Bucky Brooks release new mock drafts
Mock draft season continues as two of the best in the industry have released their latest predictions for next month's draft.
First up is ESPN's Field Yates, who projected the first two rounds in his latest mock.
With the fifth pick, Yates has the Giants boosting the secondary with the selection of Ohio State safety Caleb Downs.
"Downs has been a dominant force longer than any other defender in this class," wrote Yates. "The former Alabama and Ohio State All-American is a shapeshifter, deploying down in the box against the run or patrolling the back end with excellent coverage range."
As the analyst mentions, Downs began his career at Alabama, where he was named SEC Freshman of the Year after registering 107 total tackles (70 solo), two interceptions, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery across 14 games. The 6-foot, 206-pound safety then entered the transfer portal after Nick Saban's departure from Tuscaloosa, which led to him landing at Ohio State.
Downs only got better during his two seasons with the Buckeyes. He was named Unanimous All-American, Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year, and first-team All-Big Ten after both of his seasons in Columbus, while playing a big role in Ohio State's run to a National Championship in 2024.
After his standout 2025 campaign, Downs also took home the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back, in addition to the Lott Trophy and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Yates then has the Giants addressing the offensive line with the selection of Texas A&M guard Chase Bisontis at No. 37.
"The Giants have a strong offensive tackle duo, but they must have plenty of interior offensive linemen to keep quarterback Jaxson Dart upright," the draft analyst wrote. "Bisontis has excellent hands, is an athletic redirector in pass protection and brings position versatility. He would really boost the Giants' guard position, and he has prior starting experience at right tackle, too."
During his freshman season at Texas A&M, Bisontis started 12 games at right tackle, where he earned first-team All-SEC Freshman honors.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman then shifted inside where he took his game to another level. In each of his two seasons starting at left guard, Bisontis was credited with allowing just one sack each year, along with 22 total pressures across 673 pass block snaps.
The conference's coaches named Bisontis third-team All-SEC for his performance this past season.
