Chelsea move closer to Seria A signing–talks underway to complete early summer move

Chelsea have intensified their pursuit of AC Milan defender Strahinja Pavlović after opening talks over a potential summer transfer, according to fresh reports from Italy.

The 24-year-old centre-back has emerged as a priority target for the Blues as they look to overhaul their defence ahead of next season. Corriere Dello Sport indicate Chelsea have now gone beyond initial interest and made contact to explore the conditions of a deal, signalling a more concrete approach.

Pavlovic, who has earned 52 caps for Serbia, has been one of AC Milan’s standout performers this season, establishing himself as a key figure under Massimiliano Allegri. His development has not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea closely monitoring his progress and placing him high on their list of defensive targets.

The London club are believed to be preparing an offer in the region of €40 million (£34.6m), although Milan are expected to demand significantly more—potentially closer to €60m—given his importance to their long-term plans. With two years remaining on his contract and Milan keen to build their defence around him, negotiations are unlikely to be straightforward.

CHELSEA’s interest comes amid a broader defensive rebuild, with inconsistency at the back a recurring issue this season. The club are expected to prioritise at least one major signing in central defence, and Pavlovic’s profile—young, physically dominant, and already experienced at the top level—fits their recruitment strategy.

There is also a growing belief that Chelsea’s strong transfer relationship with Milan could play a role in facilitating discussions, with several recent deals between the clubs potentially smoothing negotiations.

What Pavlovic would bring to Stamford Bridge

Pavlovic looks tailor-made for the Premier League. Standing at over 6ft 3in, he offers a commanding aerial presence that CHELSEA have arguably lacked in recent seasons. His physicality and aggressive, front-foot defending would immediately add steel to a backline that has often appeared vulnerable.

Beyond his defensive attributes, what makes Pavlovic particularly intriguing is his evolution into a more complete centre-back. He has developed confidence in possession and an ability to contribute going forward, scoring crucial goals this season. That dual threat—defensive solidity combined with attacking output—would align well with the demands of modern Premier League football.

Perhaps most importantly, Pavlovic brings reliability. He has been a consistent starter for Milan in a high-performing defence, and at 24, he combines youth with significant experience at both club and international level.
