Defensive versatility has never been more important for NBA big men. That's the skill that has put Zuby Ejiofor onto the map during his senior year at St. John's.
Ejiofor isn't just a one-way player. The 6-9, 240 pound forward has become a bruising force on offense while also showing some nice skill as a passer.
Ejiofor does have some clear limitations at the next level. He will be drafted though and has the makings of a productive NBA player.

Zuby Ejiofor strengths
Any evaluation of Ejiofor should start with his defensive prowess. He's a great rim protector, averaging 2.2 blocks per game and spearheading St. John's No. 8 defense. He swats balls away violently, flying in from all areas of the floor.
What makes Ejiofor a potentially special defender is his versatility. He can play in a variety of schemes, switching onto guards or banging against bigger centers. He moves his feet very well on the perimeter and looks fluid.
He has a great motor and is a solid rebounder despite being a bit undersized. He makes up for a lack of height with a reported 7-1 wingspan, good instincts, and great strength.

Ejiofor is more limited offensively. He gets most of his looks out of the post, where he likes to face up or use power dribbles to get to the rim. He tends to try and overpower defenders, also relying on a soft righty hook shot.
That's not going to be a big part of his game at the pro level, but he has other areas where he can contribute. He's a good passer, and St. John's uses him in the dribble handoff actions that have become very popular in the NBA. He has a good eye for hitting cutters. He doesn't make outstanding passes, but he's an unselfish player who can make the routine ones.
Ejiofor got a lot of his points through his offensive rebounding, and that is an area which will translate. He is always a threat on the glass.

Zuby Ejiofor weaknesses
Ejiofor will need to improve upon his shooting once he enters the NBA. He was willing to take 107 3's over the past two seasons, but he connected on just 26.3 percent of those attempts. His form looks okay, and he is a good free throw shooter. There is some hope there, but it's going to take a while before he develops that skill.
Ejiofor isn't a great shot creator. He relies on guards to get him the ball in good situations or backing down guys with multiple dribbles. He can occasionally face up and put the ball on the floor, but he uses rudimentary moves to try and power his way to the rim.
For now, Ejiofor is more of an interior play finisher. He was good at that in college, finishing on a good-not-great 62.4 percent of his shots at the rim. He's not a crazy vertical athlete, but he will catch some lobs and power them down forcefully.
Ejiofor is also a bit small for an NBA center, standing at just 6-9. He has good length, but he's going to have a size disadvantage in a lot of matchups.
Ejiofor is also an older prospect. There isn't a ton of upside with him. He's got a high floor, but it's tough to see him ever developing into a top 10 center in the league.

Zuby Ejiofor NBA Mock Draft projection
Mock Draft projection: Mid/late second round
Good backup centers can often be found in the second round. Ejiofor is hoping to be part of that trend. He's showing up in most mocks around picks 40 to 50.
Ejiofor could join a team looking for immediate defensive help. He's ready to jump into a rotation immediately and provide some toughness and rebounding. He's not an incredibly dynamic offensive player. He will be looked at more as an energy big off the bench.

Zuby Ejiofor NBA player comparison
Plays like: Precious Achiuwa
Achiuwa is an undersized center who has great defensive versatility and plays with a high motor. He's been a fringe rotation player, mostly due to his inability to consistently hit 3's and somewhat low feel. When he's on though, he can have fans wondering why he doesn't play more with his set of tools.
Ejiofor has a chance to be a better version of Achiuwa. He has better feel, particularly on the defensive end of the floor. Both players bring good energy, which will be their selling points off the bench. If he can make some strides with his 3-pointer and reliably finish against bigger NBA defenders, then he should have a good career in the NBA.
